TYMS and St Andrews University research on reform of sickness benefits

Dr Colin Lindsay of TYMS presents new research on welfare reform and sickness benefits.

Dr Colin Lindsay was recently invited to speak at the University of Manchester Business School's "Work and Employment Research Centre Seminar Series". Dr Lindsay presented the findings of research conducted in collaboration with St Andrews University on factors driving the increasingly high numbers of people claiming sickness and incapacity benefits. His presentation focused on the need for policy solutions that combine targeted health and employment services, but that also respond to spatial differences in welfare dependency that are rooted in labour market inequalities. The research will be published in "Environment and Planning A" journal later this year.
