Peacebuilding in Asia

A new strategic network award from the ESRC has been awarded to an early career researcher at York for £92,000, for her network project on comparative peacebuilding in Asia.

Claire's main research interest is in comparative political scientist focusing on conflict and peace studies, especially in Southeast Asia. Other research interests include: democratisation, war-to-peace transitions, humanitarian interventions, ethno-religious violence, mass atrocities, civil war, politics of development in contested states, Indonesia, Myanmar and Timor-Leste. Secondary interests in horizontal inequalities, gender politics, multicultural citizenship and political Islam.

My research interests are on what learning approaches empower girls and women from marginalised and rural backgrounds, focusing on women folk from South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. Her work focuses on raising awareness of the implications on health and wellbeing and community wellbeing by contemporary and non-mainstream pedagogical approaches within the context of disasters, conflict and uneven development.

Reza's research interests are in the intersection between consumerism, modernity, and intercultural exchange in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore during the early twentieth century. He is also interested in HSTM (history of science, technology, and medicine), bureaucracy, and identity in Southeast Asia.
