Rising Hate and Caravan of Love: Despair and hope in India today

News | Posted on Tuesday 1 May 2018

Harsh Mander will talk about the rising tide of hate in India, 8 May.

Speaker: Harsh Mander, Centre for Equity Studies, Delhi

Date: 8 May, 4.00 - 5.30pm

Venue: BS/008

Harsh Mander will talk about the rising tide of hate in recent years in India, particularly the surge of lynch attacks in the name of the cow, targeting mostly Muslims and Dalits. He will describe the response to this growing climate of normalized hate with a Caravan of Love, or Karwan e Mohabbat, which has traversed across 10 states in India, meeting families of those who have lost their loved ones to hate violence. Here the members of the Karwan seek forgiveness, expressing solidarity, and organizing support for justice. It also makes a call of conscience to the rest of India to break their silences, and resist hate with love and solidarity.
