Transforming HR and finance

We're radically improving how we offer HR and finance services across the University.

A lot of our processes are outdated and manual, leading to extra effort spent on repetitive tasks. Moving to a modern, simplified, united way of working is the single best route to a more connected experience for all of us.

Rather than replacing our expiring systems like-for-like (Agresso, ResourceLink and dozens more), this is an opportunity to reimagine what we do, and avoid the duplication and fragmentation that comes with what we have now.

WHO WILL BENEFIT (AND HOW)

Academics, frontline workers, support staff – all of us, one way or another.

One system, with direct access for day-to-day tasks; smarter work, with more automation and consistency; clean data, with a single source of truth for accurate reporting; and clearer roles, with better-defined governance and accountability.

With your help and insights, we can make other improvements along the way. Our sector is going through a challenging time, with extra pressure on every UK university to do more with less. All the more reason to join the conversation.

WHAT WILL IMPROVE (AND WHEN)

Advertising and recruiting roles. Managing rewards and benefits. Reporting time and attendance. Creating financial strategies. Overseeing project budgets. Procuring and purchasing. All this and more. Around November 2026, they'll move into an all-in-one system for HR and finance.

Right now, the main aim is to explore ways to streamline how various teams go about their work; from March 2026, it'll be to demonstrate how day-to-day processes might soon look and feel; from August 2026, it'll be to roll out training to prepare us for new ways of working.
