Masters Taster Day programme

We can't wait to share with you what it's like to study for a Masters at the University of York.

Schedule

Activities will start at 10am with our Postgraduate Information Fair and Main Stage Talks. This will be followed by department sessions from 2pm. See the table below for more details on timings and locations.

Archaeology

Prospective Archaeology Masters students are invited to join academics and current postgraduate students for an overview of the courses on offer followed by an informal Q&A with course directors over tea, coffee and cake. Visitors will learn about Archaeology’s facilities on Campus West, including additional new facilities that are scheduled to open in Autumn 2026.

Arts and Creative Technologies

Combining Music, Creative Industries Management, Creative Technologies, Film and Television, and Theatre 

Staff from the School of Arts and Creative Technologies will be offering an introduction to the school, its facilities and the taught Masters courses on offer. The session will cover Masters courses in Music, Creative Industries Management, Creative Technologies, Film and Television, and Theatre. This will be followed by a Q&A session, and a tour of the School’s teaching spaces, practice rooms and recording facilities.

Prospective students interested in the MSc Audio and Music Technology are advised to attend the Engineering session delivered by the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology session (details below).

Campus East is a short bus journey from Campus West. Masters Taster Day attendees can use the free inter-campus bus service between these sites. Join the School for Business and Society for an introduction to the courses on offer, and a chance to meet our programme leaders and staff from the School’s dedicated skills support and careers and employability teams. This will be followed by subject-specific sessions and opportunities to engage with current postgraduate students.

Chemistry

Join staff and students for a welcome and introduction to postgraduate taught courses in the department, followed by a tour of the building and facilities and informal Q&A session. 

The Department of Chemistry is home to our MSc Data Science (Scientific) course (jointly delivered with Biology, Environment and Geography, Hull York Medical School, and Physics, Engineering & Technology). So, if you are interested in that course, please attend the Chemistry session.

Economics and Related Studies Prospective postgraduate students of Economics and Related Studies are invited to join academic staff for a short overview of the Masters courses available in the department, followed by a short taster lecture. Academics from York’s Department of Education look forward to introducing themselves and the courses on offer to prospective Masters students. This will be followed by a tour of the department and the facilities available to postgraduate students of Education at York.


Those who are interested in the MSc Psychology in Education and the MSc Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education are advised to attend the Department of Education’s session, as this course is owned by Education.

Medieval Studies

Visit the Centre for Medieval Studies in the historic Heslington Hall on Campus West. Staff and students  will offer an introduction to and a tour of their new home, including a live staff and student Q&A  panel.

Politics and International Relations

Prospective Politics and International Relations students are invited to attend a short presentation on the courses available in these subjects at York, followed by presentations of current students and a live taster lecture to find out what studying with them is really like. The department will also hold a Q&A session with current students and an informal discussion afterwards with refreshments and an opportunity for applicants to ask any further questions.

The session will be followed by a tour of York Neuroimaging Centre (YNiC) with staff from the department. Current students will be on hand to walk you over to YNiC from the Psychology Department.
