One-to-one appointments

One-to-one appointments for academic writing, maths skills, data skills, and study coaching are available to all University of York students.

The Writing Centre, Maths Skills Centre, Academic Speaking and Study Coaching provide one-to-one appointments focusing on the individual needs of each student. We are experienced in advising students in all subject areas and from all levels of study: UG, PGT and PhD. 

Academic writing

The Writing Centre offers guidance on planning assignments, writing arguments, integrating sources, academic writing style, proofreading your own work and more.

Specialist appointments are offered for PhD students.

Academic speaking

30 minute appointments (1-1 or small group) for academic speaking practice and voice confidence. Focus on a speaking activity such as delivering a PPT or group poster presentation, a podcast interview or professional discussion, a short talk or pitch to a non-expert audience, then come to practise in front of an experienced skills advisor. Appointments available online or face-to-face.

Maths and statistics

The Maths Skills Centre offers advice and guidance on maths topics, statistical concepts and analysis, and preparing for numerical reasoning tests.

Study coaching

Discuss your current approach to academic life to help develop your study skills and strategies. The coach will guide you in your journey of self-discovery. They won't look at any written work, provide feedback, or critique you in any way.

Online and on-campus appointments are available.
