One Team, One York: join us at Roses 2025

Dear students,

We’re writing together to invite all of our community to join us this weekend at Roses 2025, marking its 60th anniversary here in York.

It’s an exciting opportunity to experience our biggest annual sporting event!

The majority of the sporting action is still to come, with a packed fixture list between Friday 2 and Sunday 4 May, most of it on (or near) campus. There are plenty of opportunities for you to watch and cheer on our teams.

Most events are free to attend, though a small number require tickets to be booked in advance: find out more on the SU event pages

With a huge range of sports - including football, netball, e-sports, darts, swimming, water polo, dance, pokemon, trampolining and weightlifting - there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the competitive events, there’ll be a family fun run, an art exhibition, the Roses Fringe Festival and more!

Roses is a student-led event and each year the York Sport Committee selects a different charity, raising awareness and money for the charity while highlighting important causes.

This year, we are partnering with York Mind, an independent local mental health charity which empowers individuals experiencing mental ill health to start on the pathway to recovery. Find out more about our partnership: if you’d like to support York Mind, you can donate online or in person over the Roses weekend. Our Sports Officer TJ has shared her story, explaining how sport has helped her overcome mental health challenges.

Sport brings us joy (and sometimes sorrow), opportunities to make friends, find our niche and improve our physical and mental health. Not just for this weekend, but all year round, we are One Team, One York.

We look forward to seeing you at the weekend - and remember #RosesAreWhite.

Best wishes,

Charlie, Yeme and TJ
