Colleges Community Network

Social and development opportunities for all staff and PhD students.

Our community of colleges is open to staff and researchers as well as students, offering you the chance to feel more connected to the wider University community. You’ll be able to network, access shared staff common room spaces outside your usual work environment, and get involved in social activities and college projects.

The Colleges Community Network provides personal development opportunities for staff and students, drawing on knowledge and skills from across the University to support the work of colleges.

As a member of the network, you’ll be encouraged to give back to your college community, in ways that will suit your interests and help you to develop your skills and experience. This could involve:

  • Mentoring student committee members
  • Running or helping to set up an event or activity
  • Joining a project group
  • Supporting Arrivals day
  • Writing an article for the newsletter
  • Providing feedback or being part of a focus group

How you’ll benefit

  • Social activities including lunch meetups, interest-based groups and campus walks
  • Space to engage positively with colleagues, students and the wider community
  • Networking and development opportunities
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Projects to help you meet academic service/citizenship requirements

When you join, you’ll become a college member: you’ll have the option to choose a preferred college if, for example, you’re a York graduate and already have an association with a specific college. This will give you access to exclusive events and to staff/PhD student spaces on both campuses (regardless of which college you join).

You’ll receive a welcome pack with more information about the Colleges Community Network, a monthly newsletter and you’ll be invited to a regular programme of events and activities.
