Project summary
Background and study aims
Person-centredness is at the heart of the experience for service users of home care. Person-centredness is all about getting to know service users as individuals; building caring relationships; and tailoring support to people's preferences. Some people are more able to do this than others and these are the people we want to be care workers. Judging whether someone has the right values and attitudes for person-centredness care is difficult. Without a tool to help, agencies recruiting care workers may look at the wrong things. We are aiming to develop a tool to help, called a 'situational judgement test'. This works by presenting real life dilemmas and asking participants to choose what they consider to be the most appropriate action. We expect this tool would be used to recruit new care workers, or to train new staff.
