National House Project nominated for Children and Young People Now Award

The National House Project gives young people control over their transition from living in care to living independently. Based on a housing cooperative model, participants in each House Project form a small business to project manage the refurbishment of their future homes, gaining skills and confidence while having access to bespoke support packages.

Jo Dixon and in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, evaluated the development and operation of the project’s pilot scheme in Stoke-on-Trent, and along with , are now evaluating phase two. This second phase runs until 2020 and explores the project’s longer-term sustainability, expansion outside of Stoke and the impact on care leavers involved in the project.

The Children and Young People Now Awards highlight the very best practice in work with children, young people and their families. The award winners will be revealed at a gala ceremony on 28 November at the Hurlingham Club, London.
