The Duke of York to open Goodricke College

His Royal Highness will unveil a plaque to mark the occasion, meet students living in the college and view the wider Heslington East campus development on Wednesday 28 April.
It will also be an opportunity for the Duke of York, who is the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, to learn how Heslington East will help the University support economic prosperity.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Cantor said: “The Queen officially opened the first colleges at the University of York 45 years ago so it is fitting that the Duke of York should be joining us to celebrate this major step in the University’s development.
“Building connections with business will be at the heart of Heslington East, making it a major investment in the regional economy as well as in research, teaching and learning.”
Goodricke College moved from buildings on the existing campus to its new home in September 2009 and provides self-catering accommodation for 600 students.
Laura Baxter, a third year Mathematics student and Goodricke College resident, said: “It has been great to be involved at the start of an exciting new era for the college and the University.
“The comfortable rooms and large kitchens in the flats as well as the facilities in the common rooms make it a really nice place to live.”
In the autumn, new buildings to house the Departments of Computer Science, Theatre, Film and Television, the York Law School and York Management School will open alongside facilities that will foster links between the University and businesses and help new companies to grow.
