University of York showcases the best in science

Posted on 31 August 2007

See atoms in action through one of the world’s most powerful microscopes, find out if monkeys ever lived in England or get up close and personal with the body’s most complex organ - the brain.

These are just some of the fascinating activities which people can sample at a series of events laid on by researchers from the University of York during the BA Festival of Science in York from 9 to 15 September.

As well as a variety of events for school groups, University researchers have organised lectures, debates and hands-on activities. The public can even see science in action under canvas - at the Event in a Tent in Parliament Street on 10 September.

The programme of University events is featured in a 20-page leaflet, The University of York - the best in science, which will be available at public libraries and other outlets across the York area. The University is hosting the BA Festival of Science, with support from City of York Council and Science City York.

The University of York’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Alastair Fitter said: "The University is proud to present a sample of its world-class science research during the Festival.

"I hope this leaflet will inspire people to come to our events and enjoy finding out more about the scientific advances we are making at the University of York."
