Neurologist rises to challenge of Alzheimer's Disease diagnosis

An authority on behavioural neurology will explore the challenge facing clinical researchers of the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease in a lecture at the University of York next week.

Professor John Hodges, Professor of Behavioural Neurology at Cambridge University will give the Alzheimer's Research Trust lecture at 6.30pm on 16 January 2006.

The lecture, which is free and open to all, is in the Physics Building Lecture Theatre (P/L001) on the University of York's Heslington Campus. It is organised in association with the University's Department of Psychology and the Clinical Neuroscience Centre at the University of Hull.

Professor Hodges is Professor of Behavioural Neurology at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit and the University Department of Neurology in Cambridge.

He has a particular interest in memory, language and early onset dementia syndromes, and directs Memory and the Early Onset Dementia Clinics at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. Professor Hodges co-ordinates a research team consisting of neuropsychologists, behavioural neurologists and neuroimagers and is also heavily involved in carer support.

Next month, members of the public are invited to attend a second lecture, taking place at 6:30pm on 14 February 2006 at the Guildhall, Hull.

Professor Clive Ballard, Chairman of the Alzheimer's Society and Professor of Age Related Diseases at King's College London, will give the lecture on 'Endogenous Stem Cells in Dementia', demonstrating his extensive knowledge and research related to the disease and the development of treatment targets.
