Showcase for regional health researchers

Posted on 3 March 2006

The Third Hull York Medical School research conference takes place at the KC Stadium in Hull next week.

The annual forum attracts researchers from the NHS North Yorkshire and Humber region and the two parent universities of HYMS.

Keynote speakers at the event on Thursday 9 March will be Catherine Johns, Head of Trust R&D and Finance from the Department of Health, and William Burr, Yorkshire Postgraduate Dean. Ms Johns will discuss the implementation of the NHS research strategy, Best Research for Best Health, while Professor Burr will speak about Foundation Programmes and what to expect in the first two years of clinical practice.

The conference provides an excellent networking opportunity for health researchers from across the region, bringing together medical researchers from the Universities and the local NHS to forge new links and capitalise on regional strengths.

There will be specialist sessions on heart failure and rehabilitation; immunology and infection research; imaging and neurosciences and good clinical practice inspections. Researchers also have the opportunity to illustrate completed and on-going research through poster presentations.

Professor Ian Morris, HYMS associate Dean for Research, said: "This year's conference showcases some of the cutting edge research taking place within the HYMS region and reveals the strengths which our future expanded programs will achieve. It's an essential day for those committed to increasing the impact of the research activities in this region."
