Higher education switch for health trust administrator

Posted on 15 November 2005

An administrator with 20 years experience in the NHS is to be the new Director of Facilities Management at the University of York.

Keith Lilley is currently Director of Facilities at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, the largest NHS trust in the UK.

He began his NHS career in 1986 as a management trainee with what was then the Trent Regional Health Authority. Two years later, he was appointed to a supply management post at Guy's Hospital London.

In 1990, he was appointed as head of purchasing for Guy's and Lewisham NHS Trust. He left London three years later to take up a post at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, where he was responsible for facilities management and technology transfers as well as purchasing.

He moved to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 1999, again in a purchasing role, though after two years he was appointed Director of Facilities.

Mr Lilley said of his new appointment: "It's a real opportunity and a real challenge to expand facilities in a growing organisation. That was the attraction for me and it is enormously exciting".

"I like the feel of the University and I detect a real sense of teamwork from all the people I have met so far."

Jarrow-born Mr Lilley has a first degree in Geography, and an MBA from the University of Warwick. He is married to Carole and the couple have three sons, aged eight, six and two.

Mr Lilley replaces Dr Andy Macdonald who retired in July 2005 after seven years as Director of Facilities Management.
