Twin Towers graduate remembered

Posted on 16 February 2004

The parents of Nigel Thompson, a York graduate who died in the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001, will visit the University of York on Monday 16 February.

Pat and Norman Thompson will unveil a plaque commemorating their son next to a tree planted in his memory. The tree and the plaque are located near the Department of Economics, where Nigel and his twin brother Neal both studied, graduating in 1990.

Both brothers were living and working in New York at the time of the tragedy. Nigel was a senior partner for Cantor Fitzgerald and worked on the 105th floor of One World Trade Center.

Neal, who still lives in New York, plans to visit the University of York later this year.

Head of Economics, Professor John Hutton, said "We like to foster attachments with our former students, and in these exceptional circumstances are pleased to have this memorial tree near the department."
