University appoints central banker to Norwich Union funded post

Dr Tim Young has joined the University of York as The Norwich Union Lecturer in Financial Economics.

The post has been funded by Norwich Union and is based in the Department of Economics and Related Studies at the University. In addition to lecturing Tim will conduct research in the field of fund management.

Mike Urmston, Chief Actuary at Norwich Union commented: "In today's financial climate it is vital that Norwich Union has access to the latest academic research so it can continue to provide the best possible return for its clients. The Department of Economics at York is extremely well regarded and I am sure that Tim's findings will be both relevant and influential in our strategic thinking."

Professor Huw Dixon, Head of the Department of Economics, said: "The Department has a strong reputation in theoretical and applied finance and Tim Young's appointment will consolidate our work in this area. We are delighted that Norwich Union is supporting this post."

Prior to joining York, Tim Young was Trading Manager at the Bank of England where he was responsible for a group of portfolio managers controlling the UK's $40 billion of foreign exchange reserves. He holds a PhD from the University of Lancaster.
