University announces 10 new readerships

Posted on 6 April 2004

The University of York is to create 10 new readerships to consolidate its recent appointment of 10 Anniversary Chairs to mark its 40th anniversary. During the first 40 years of its life, the University has become recognised for excellence in both research and teaching. Now, to sustain this excellence, it is about to embark on a major programme of expansion which will involve the significant growth in academic departments.

The people who will take up the readership appointments will join the University at a time of change. The University's expansion will lead to an increase of student numbers, with a particular emphasis on postgraduate and international students. The research community is expected to benefit particularly from the expansion with more space available for research teams, spin-out companies, and opportunities to explore new subject areas.

Applicants should be recognised as making a major contribution to their discipline together with an ability to progress to even more senior positions of intellectual and research leadership.

The readerships are available competitively across the following departments:

  • Biology
  • Economics and Related Studies
  • Archaeology
  • Chemistry
  • Educational Studies
  • English and Related Literature
