The Sunday Times praises York's academic excellence in its Good Universities Guide

The University of York is ranked sixth out of 100 universities in the Sunday Times Good University Guide published on 12 September 2004. The University is once again the top university in Yorkshire.

In the Guide, York is praised as 'one of Britain's academic success stories, forging a reputation to rival Oxford and Cambridge in the space of 40 years'.

York's excellent track record - especially in teaching where there are 20 top-rated teaching subjects - is highlighted. The world-class research at York also attracts comment with 18 of 23 assessed research subject being deemed internationally excellent.

The success of the Hull York Medical School also gives rise to comment with applicants for admission this year up 50% on those of last year. The medical school is now celebrating its first anniversary.
