Professor Brian Cantor takes over as Vice-Chancellor at the University of York

Professor Brian Cantor takes over as Vice-Chancellor of the University of York today (1 October). He joins York from the University of Oxford, where he was Head of the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and Director of the Begbroke Business and Science Park.

Professor Cantor is a former Head of the Department of Materials at Oxford, where he worked for 20 years. Previous to that, he taught at Sussex University for nine years. He is regarded as a world authority on materials manufacturing and has acted as a consultant for manufacturing companies all over the world.

New Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Professor Felicity Riddy has become the University's new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the first woman to hold this post in the University's 39-year history. Professor Riddy has taught English at York since 1988, and became a professor in 1991. She has been a Pro-Vice-Chancellor for two years.>
