Joseph Rowntree and Henri Nestlé make their mark at University

Posted on 26 November 2001

Two lecture theatres at the University of York have been upgraded thanks to a generous benefaction from Nestlé UK. In appreciation of the gift and to mark the close relationship between the University and Nestlé UK, the rooms have been named the Joseph Rowntree Lecture Theatre and the Henri Nestlé Lecture Theatre.

The theatres have modern IT and audio-visual facilities, including a data projector, PA system, slide projectors, video, screens and hearing induction loop. The also have refurbished seats and desks and new colour schemes. They are situated in the Physics/Electronics building, but are used by students and lecturers from a variety of departments. The building is also the home of the University's Exhibition Centre, which is used by many outside organisations. They too will have access to the lecture theatres.

"The University is very grateful for Nestlé UK's support. The lecture theatres will be used by hundreds of our own students, but also by visitors to the University." said Professor Ron Cooke, Vice-Chancellor. "They will all benefit from the superb IT and audio-visual facilities, not to mention the comfort of the rooms."

Said Graham Millar, Finance Director, Nestlé UK: "We're delighted to have this opportunity to support the University and further strengthen the links between us. They have proved very mutually rewarding over the years particularly in the area of science which makes this particular involvement all the more appropriate."
