New sports pavilion opens

Known as the Norwich Union Pavilion, it will be opened by Dame Janet Baker, Chancellor of the University and Mike Urmston, Chief Actuary of Norwich Union. Members of the University's Court, the Sports Centre, Athletics Union and Norwich Union Sports and Social Club will be present at the event
The Pavilion will be used by the University football, rugby and cricket teams and by the football, hockey and cricket teams of Norwich Union.
Norwich Union, the Foundation for Sports and the Arts, and the University, have all helped finance the building.
"We are very grateful to Norwich Union and the FSA for their support in this venture," said Professor Ron Cooke, Vice-Chancellor of the University of York, "The Pavilion will greatly improve the sports facilities for University students and staff alike."
Mike Urmston said, "Norwich Union is very pleased to be in partnership with the University for our mutual benefit. Our staff will now be able to enjoy some really first class sports facilities."
