Posted on 13 December 2000

The University of York, the College of Ripon and York, and York College are to collaborate on a range of projects.

A ‘Statement of Collaboration' will be signed by Professor Ron Cooke, Vice-Chancellor of the University of York, Professor Dianne Willcocks, Principal of the College of Ripon and York, and Mike Galloway, Principal of York College at the University this evening (13 December).

The three institutions are likely to undertake joint activities in widening participation, lifelong learning, the recruitment of overseas students, staff training, and the validation by the University of certain courses offered by the two Colleges.

Ron Cooke, Vice-Chancellor of the University of York said: "York has three excellent institutions concerned with higher and further education - the University, the College of Ripon and York, and York College. In order better to serve the whole community, we need to recognise and exploit the potential for mutually-advantageous collaboration. This agreement is an important stop in that direction."

Dianne Willcocks, Principal of the College of Ripon and York added: "We are excited about the new possibilities of sharing our commitment to learners in York and North Yorkshire and responding to community needs in a more coherent way. Working together we can anticipate and respond to the changing expectations of higher education - both from individuals and from a range of organisations."

Mike Galloway, Principal of York College said: "This collaboration will benefit the whole community. Our joint efforts in promoting wider participation and lifelong learning will encourage the educational aspirations of many people in York and the surrounding area."

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend the signing at 6.30 pm in Wentworth College. Please ring Hilary Layton on 01904 432029 for further details.
