Former York students have a day at the races

Posted on 8 October 1999

Over 600 graduates from the University of York will celebrate 35 years of the University at York Races on Saturday 9 October. This will be followed by a gala dinner at the University with guest speaker Greg Dyke.

The celebration comes at the end of the University's 35th year, two days before it begins its 36th year of operation. The University accepted its first students in October 1963.

Former students will have a race preview from Alistair Down, who graduated from York in 1977, and is now a commentator for the award-winning Channel Four racing team. A free bus service will take guests from the University to the Racecourse.

Dinners in Langwith and Vanbrugh College will be preceded by a drinks reception with guest speaker Greg Dyke, Director General elect of the BBC and a 1974 graduate of the University.
