Paid, local student internships: A busy summer ahead

The Student Internship Bureau in Careers is currently processing around 100 summer internship opportunities for York students.

‌Established four years ago, the Student Internship Bureau (SIB) has continually grown the range of organisations it works with so that employers both large and small can access the skills and enthusiasm of York’s students.

Working mostly with employers in the York area, the SIB offers to help with project design, advertising, shortlisting and the whole process of contracting and paying student interns – particularly over the months of the summer vacation.

Employers involved include East Coast Rail, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the University of York itself, and many smaller employers with projects that will have substantial impact on their future performance. Winner of last year’s Intern Project of the Year award was Camilla Dutton, a Law student who worked with start-up business The Law Wizard to produce a detailed piece of market research that fundamentally changed the business’s view on its main customers.

This summer student interns will be engaging with diverse projects including: working on corporate finance models with a firm of accountants, researching the history of Heslington Hall, helping to save bees with FERA, and further developing Bettys and Taylor’s corporate social responsibility strategy.
