CoSTAR Live Lab presents...

CoSTAR Live Lab is a brand new R&D facility based at Production Park near Wakefield. Live Lab is part of the £75m government-funded CoSTAR Network, and supports innovation in immersive, multisensory and interactive technologies to transform audience experience, shaping next-generation live experiences for screen, stage and into the metaverse.

We are excited to welcome Joyce Nga Yu Lee 李雅瑜 for an inspiring public talk as part of our CoSTAR Live Lab Presents series.

Joyce is an award-winning theatre director and consultant with 20 year experience creating performances across Asia and Europe. Joyce is known for her inclusive practice and ability to convey complex subjects in accessible ways, often incorporating digital technology and underpinned by research. She is former Artistic Director of Mind the Gap, UK’s leading learning disability arts company, where she created acclaimed national artistic projects with learning disabled artists, including Daughters of Fortune which accumulated £1 million investment from Wellcome Trust, Arts Council England, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Rayne Foundation and multiple local authorities. Once described by The Telegraph as “ambitious, original and delightfully weird”, her works were recommended by The Guardian, The Stage covered by The One Show, BBC Look North, Prospect Magazine, The Conversation. She was awarded a Clore Fellowship in 2023 and the Leeds Doctoral Scholarship in 2024 for her PhD. She is a Steering Committee member of CoSTAR LiveLab.

Funded by Clore Leadership and Arts and Humanities Research Council, Joyce has been on a journey to explore digital user experience (UX) in Arts and Cultural events from the perspective of people with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism. At this talk Joyce would share her findings including motivations and barriers, and hope to explore with fellow artists and creative technologists how we might further advance the aims of design for all in solidarity.

Joyce’s talk will take place on the 10th of July between 2pm-3pm. The talk is open to in-person attendees at Live Lab’s Production Park home, and will also be available as a live online video stream. After the talk, we invite in-person attendees to join us for networking from 3pm-4pm at Production Park’s CentR Stage Cafe. This will be an excellent opportunity to engage with our speakers, fellow attendees and to meet the CoSTAR Live Lab team.

If you would like to attend this talk, please sign up for a free ticket on the right of this page.

If you are attending in-person, we will require you to agree to the terms of Production Park's Confidentiality and Business Protection Agreement before we are able to welcome you on site. You can read this at the link below:
