Joy of Creation and Innovation - Participatory Composition Projects by Japan Century Symphony Orchestra
Makoto Nomura is a poly-stylistic composer and has often worked in collaborative ways, such as Root Music, an installation in an art gallery, Music with Animals, a collaboration with Yukihiro Nomura (video artist), etc. He has composed for symphony orchestra, chamber ensemble, Javanese gamelan, Japanese koto ensemble, water in the swimming pool, roof tiles, balloons etc. Since 2014 when he was appointed the director of creative learning by Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, and he has encouraged orchestra players to try improvisation, non-western music, site-specific concerts, collaboration with living composers, etc.
