Epidemiology of blood cancers

Arising in blood and lymph forming tissue, haematological malignancies have diverse causes, treatments and outcomes. More than 100 subtypes are currently recognized by the World Health Organization.

Providing information that cannot be found elsewhere, ECSG delivers high quality research on all aspects of the epidemiology of these complex cancers; ranging from their distributions and causes, through to their prognosis and determinants of outcome.

Our main projects

HMRN provides contemporary, robust, generalisable, data on leukaemias, lymphomas, myelomas, and related blood disorders. It informs researchers, clinicians and patients – nationally and internationally.
UKCCS is a national study designed to examine the potential causes of cancer diagnosed before the age of 15 years, as well as the longer-term health of childhood cancer survivors.
VIVO Biobank is a national UK resource that is dedicated to storing samples and data of cancers affecting children and young people. Cellbank and Tissue Bank, have merged to create a single research resource. Vivo is a collaboration between Cancer Research UK and Blood Cancer UK.
EUMDS is a prospective multicentre European registry for newly diagnosed patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). People with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) are also included.
