Research

At Enterprise Works, research is at the heart of what we do to create a safer, healthier, and more sustainable society through entrepreneurship.

By blending academic insights with real-world applications, we craft practical policy solutions to tackle important social and economic issues.

Our diverse teams work closely with industry experts, policymakers, and community leaders to understand what communities truly need. This collaboration helps us develop informed policies that break down barriers and promote fairness, inclusion, and sustainability in the world of entrepreneurship.

C3 - The Creative Technology Discovery Cluster

C3 supports organisations of all sizes and sectors to explore and adopt creative, digital and interactive technologies. By making creative technologies accessible beyond the creative industries, the cluster helps businesses recognise their commercial potential, drive cross-sector innovation and develop new ideas to improve products, services and competitiveness. The project is supported by the Mayor of York & North Yorkshire and part-funded by the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Colleagues working

The Northern Powerhouse (NPH) Ethnic Minority Business and Policy Forum, Enterprise Works at the University of York, and The York Policy Engine are undertaking research in to the challenges and barriers for ethnic minority businesses in the Northern Powerhouse region, to enable greater understanding of the needs of this community and to influence the business support policies targeted at these groups. Findings will be used to create the NPH Ethnic Minority Business Barometer.

The report will contribute to evidence-based policy making and tailored business support. Together, we can drive positive change and create a more inclusive and supportive business environment.

A New Era for Female Entrepreneurship

The University of York and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) have conducted research to understand the barriers faced by female founders in York and North Yorkshire. This research has reported on how women are overcoming social bias and barriers to business as well as what needs to be done to remove the necessity for continued gender equality conversations over the next decade.

In developing this report specifically for York & North Yorkshire, we hope to address the challenges unique to this region and co-create solution-based approaches.
