Core to the success of our Department has been the research undertaken in our Macroeconomics & Finance cluster. The appointment of Chairs/Reader in Economics & Finance and Financial Econometrics will further strengthen the research work in Macroeconomics & Finance.
The MSc in Finance programme has been the largest postgraduate programme in the department for many years. It attracts a global student body and our graduates go on to successful careers in finance and research in finance around the world. The course was originally developed and is still championed by Professor Peter Spencer, who after many years’ service to the Department and University will be retiring at Easter 2019.
Prof Jo Swaffield, Head of Department at York said: "In appointing Peter’s successor, we hope to consolidate and extend the international reputation of the Department within a world-class and vibrant research environment.
"Current areas of strength include asset pricing, financial econometrics and macro-finance as demonstrated by the activities of the Centre for Applied Macro-Finance (CAMF). These activities have been given added impetus by the enthusiasm and energy of our young and ambitious staff and the developing cadre of PhD students.
Over the next few years, we look to both deepen and broaden our commitment to research in Finance at York including areas such as corporate, international and behavioural finance.
"Our econometrics and finance research group is one of the largest among the UK universities. Members of the econometrics and finance research group have published in top journals in econometrics, macroeconomics and finance, including Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Monetary Economics and Journal of Financial Economics, among many others. The Centre of Panel Data Analysis (PanDA) and Centre for Applied Macro-Finance (CAMF) provide a suitable hub through which to stimulate and foster interactions between York academics, world-leading researchers, and outside academia such as the Bank of England.
"We are interested in speaking with candidates who have a strong commitment to the promotion of excellence in research, and in teaching & learning. We offer a collegiate, supportive environment, led be a community of academics who are leaders in their fields, and who are dedicated to delivering high quality research, teaching and outreach."
The closing date for applications is 9 December 2018. Interviews will take place in York on 21 and 24 January 2019.
