York-Gadjah Mada Partnership: Advancing Global Health Economics in Indonesia

Dr. Mathilde Peron and Dr. Maria Garcia Reyes recently advanced a British Council grant in Indonesia, shaping the future of global health economics education at the University of Gadjah Mada.

Dr Mathilde Peron and Dr Maria Garcia Reyes, Senior Lecturers from the Department of Economics recently completed a successful visit to the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Indonesia, 14th - 21st May 2025 for the purposes of implementing a grant obtained from the British Council 'Bridging Global Health Economics: Empowering Indonesian Graduates through the York-Gadjah Mada Partnership' the visit objective was to finalise the core curriculum and expand it to include elective modules, with visits to key institutions, including UGM, Ministry of Health, British Council, and alumni engagement.

Beyond curriculum development, Mathilde and Maria engaged with a wide range of key stakeholders, solidifying partnerships and exploring new avenues for collaboration. These vital discussions included meetings with:

  • Prof. Dr. Didi Achjari, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM, and other senior officials including Dr Rimawan Pradiptyo HoD FEB, deputy Dean Dr. Gumilang Aryo Sahadewo, Deputy HoD FEB Dr Eny Sulistyaningrum
  • Ali Ghufron Mukti, President Director of BPJS Kesehatan, to discuss an articulation project and potential collaborations.
  • Dr. Ahmad Irsan A Moeis, Director of the Centre for Health Financing, Ministry of Health.
  • Representatives from the British Council Indonesia and the Anti-Corruption Team in Indonesia, exploring future partnerships.

Demonstrating York's expertise, Dr. Peron delivered a Lecture on Health Economics to MSc students, while Dr. Garcia Reyes presented a Seminar and Guest Lecture on Applied Statistics in Health Economics. This productive visit marks a significant step forward in empowering the next generation of Indonesian health economics leaders.
