Local and Commuting Students

If you are a new student, studying in a department located on Campus West (except for Health Sciences and HYMS), then you'll be joining James College this year.

By putting as many local and commuting students together in James, we hope to create a strong and supportive community. We can also make sure we're providing the facilities and advice that you need to make the most out of your University journey.

New Commuting Student Welcome

Straight after the University's welcome for commuting students on Thursday 26th September, all new James commuting students will be taken to James College for a quick tour of our facilities and a chance to meet the James College Team.

Facilities for commuting students

James Lodge is open from 8am-11pm every weekday, and is available to all James College students. Inside, we have a kitchen where you can heat up some food, make a hot drink and eat some lunch. We also have lockers which you can use to store your belongings, and social and study space so that you can relax or work between classes.

In addition, the Roger Kirk Centre is open at lunch and dinner times, should you wish to buy a meal. The space can also be used for working and socialising in the daytime, and you may bring your own food and drink too.

More information

In addition to receiving our standard pre-arrival emails, you will receive a special information with more information about our arrangements and support for local and commuting students in September.
