A new report – the tenth annual indicator report on human rights in the city of York – highlights persistent inequalities in the enjoyment of socio-economic rights among residents, alongside mounting challenges to social cohesion in the city.

But it also documents work that empowers young people to have their voices heard, community and inter-faith efforts to strengthen community cohesion, and collaborative work in the city to challenge homelessness and mental health concerns.

The York Human Rights City Network, hosted by The Centre for Applied Human Rights at The University of York and the York Centre for Voluntary Service, published its tenth annual Indicator Report, The State of the City, on the 21 April 2026.
