Resumption of Chevening scholarships for Afghan students abroad

CAHR will be honored to continue to welcome Chevening students on our postgraduate programmes.

The Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR) is delighted to learn that the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has decided to resume the opportunity for “Afghans, resident outside of Afghanistan” to apply for a Chevening Scholarship and study in the UK during the academic year 2023/24. We wish to recognise the important and courageous advocacy efforts of current and former Afghan Chevening scholars at the University of York.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to “outstanding emerging leaders” from around the world by British Embassies and High Commissions. They provide one year of fully funded postgraduate study in UK. We hope that in the future the scheme will also be extended to applicants who are based in Afghanistan. As noted in a CAHR statement earlier this month, “It is precisely in contexts such as that in Afghanistan where investment in the future generation of leaders is most pressing.”
