This event will demonstrate the platform’s interactive capabilities and discuss how international humanitarian law (IHL)-informed data can strengthen the evidence base for understanding armed conflict and its consequences.
What is the Beyond Data Hub?
The Beyond Data Hub enables users to conduct geographical and temporal searches of harm and need resulting from armed actors’ conduct. Drawing on the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) Georeferenced Event Dataset (GED), the Beyond Dataset enriches event-level data with indicators relevant to international humanitarian law across conflicts in Somalia (2021–2023), South Sudan (2013–2018), and Myanmar (2021–2022).
The Beyond Data Hub is designed to support political science and legal researchers, humanitarian, development and peacebuilding practitioners, as well as policymakers to examine patterns of armed actors’ conduct and the resulting harm and needs arising from conflict events. It aims to inform and strengthen the evidence base for studying (i) factors that may influence compliance + restraint in armed actors’ conduct and (ii) types of harm and need arising from armed actors’ conduct.
