Dr Ziyun Fan from the Work Management and Organisation group will talk about her research, publication and work experience. In this informal talk you will hear her story of how she began her academic career, what publication strategies she uses, how to develop research collaborations and how she copes with R&R and rejections. She will also talk about how she manages her researching and teaching time. You are warmly welcome to ask your questions and share your concerns with her.
Dr Ziyun Fan
Dr Ziyun Fan is an Associate Professor of Organization Studies in the ‘Work, Management and Organization’ (WMO) group at SBS. Prior to this, she was a lecturer in Organization Studies at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University. She obtained her PhD in Management (specialising in Organization Studies) from Royal Holloway, University of London in September 2018, awarded in 2019, supervised under the expertise of Professor Chris Grey and Professor Dan Kärreman.
Ziyun’s current research focuses on different types of social value judgement (such as secrecy/transparency, silence, responsible leadership) and their mechanisms of actualization (such as temporality and space) in organizations. Her empirical exploration predominantly draws on qualitative and ethnographic methods.
When pursuing this agenda, Ziyun has contributed to world-leading journals in the fields of organization theory such as three papers in Human Relations (CABS 4) and one paper in Organization Studies (CABS 4). She serves the editorial boards of Human Relations (CABS 4), Organization (CABS 3), and Management Learning (CABS 3). She is the book review editor of Management Learning (CABS 3). She was also awarded the Best Reviewer of Academy of Management Perspectives (CABS 4).
Besides journal and editorial engagement, Ziyun is part of the executive leadership team of the Management History division at the Academy of Management. She also serves the award committee of the Management History division. Ziyun is currently our Deputy Director of the PhD programmes at SBS.
