Event details
The School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee is pleased to invite you to our next EDI Forum. This session, marking Black History Month, will focus on Challenges and Responses to Black Intellectual Work in an Era of Backlash against EDI and Critical Race Scholarship.
Black History Month is a time to honour the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black communities, while also acknowledging persistent barriers in education, work, and society. At a moment when EDI commitments are being rolled back and critical race scholarship is under increasing scrutiny, this Forum offers an important opportunity to reflect on how Black academics and thought leaders are navigating retrenchment, resisting erasure, and reimagining more transformative forms of inclusion. The Forum will provide a supportive space for staff and students to discuss Black scholarship, EDI retrenchment, and the politics of presence. This year, we are raising awareness of the challenges Black scholars face while also celebrating their intellectual leadership and agency. Presentations from a panel will generate discussion on these themes, followed by a Q&A.
Our presenters are:
- Professor Nelarine Cornelius is Professor of Organisation Studies at Queen Mary, University of London. She is Deputy Editor of Business and Society Journal, and Associate Editor for Journal of Business Ethics. Nelarine’s research is in two broad areas: inequality, fairness and social justice; and international management practices in emerging and fragile economies.
- Professor Doyin Atewologun is a psychologist, scholar practitioner, a regular media contributor and multi-award winner in recognition of her innovative methodologies and pioneering work in promoting inclusion and excellence in organisations. She is CEO and Founder of Delta, a niche leadership and inclusion consultancy.
Please kindly note that we will be taking some photos at the event, for marketing purposes. Please let Chido Umeh know should you not wish to be included, either via email or at the event itself. Further information about the University’s processes for capturing photography and video.
