A hitchhiker's guide to antiviral RNAi in mosquitoes
Investigating the interplay between vectors such as mosquitoes and the viruses they transmit -arboviruses- is critical to understand transmission processes. Importantly, mosquito cells mount immune responses to viral replication of which the exogenous siRNA pathway plays a central role. I will explore critical functions and mechanisms in this pathway, mainly based on my group's work studying Semliki Forest virus, and where such studies can lead.
About the speaker
Professor Alain Kohl
Alain joined LSTM in 2023 from the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR), where he was Professor of Arbovirology and MRC Programme Leader. Alain has worked on arboviruses since hisdoctoral studies at the Institut Pasteur/University Paris 7 (Paris, France), with post-doctoral training at the Universities of Glasgow and St. Andrews before he started his independent research career at the University of Edinburgh with the support of a Wellcome Trust fellowship. Alain then joined the Roslin Institute as Career Track fellow, from where I moved to CVR.
