Driverless technologies exhibition

How can we help the public to understand driverless technologies and how we assure them to be safe?

We worked with the National Railway Museum, part of the Science Museum Group, to develop and create an exhibit that would help their visitors to better understand how driverless technologies work and how our research is helping to assure they are safe.

In June 2022 we held a Festival of Ideas day at the Museum, offering tours of the exhibition. We asked some visitors to the exhibit their thoughts on the exhibit and on the introduction of autonomous vehicles:

Our exhibit was the first to be shown in the Museum's new Innovation Platform. The main exhibit was an interactive display showing how an autonomous vehicle would first detect and then categorise hazards around it. Supporting elements explained the Sense-Understand-Decide-Act model, as well as items considering the wider context of the introduction of autonomous systems. 

The exhibition also included a film with AAIP Research Associate, Dr Zoe Porter, considering the ethical questions associated with the introduction of autonomous systems:
