Event details

With the ongoing discussions around decolonising the curriculum and musical canon, it is important to consider how we as artists engage with the music of another culture(s). Discussion points for this session may include:

  1. Should/do the borders between different cultures still exist in an increasingly globalised world?
  2. How can we engage with these cultural borders if we want to work cross/inter/trans-culturally?
  3. What are the responsibilities of musicians working with cultures outside of their own, particularly in regards to systemic power, cultural appropriation and exoticism?
