York Music Psychology Group (YMPG)

YMPG aims to explain and understand musical behaviour and experience. We study the processes and mechanisms through which music is created, perceived, responded to and incorporated into everyday life.

We also apply this knowledge to music practice and the development and evaluation of music and media technology. Our research has international reach and the potential for strong impact.

We run a weekly research colloquium where we will discuss recent studies from the field of music psychology where visiting speakers and members of the York Music Psychology Group present and discuss their research.
