The School of Arts and Creative Technologies are deeply saddened by the news that Honorary Research Fellow Tim Wright passed away earlier this month. Tim had a long relationship with Music at York, having studied for his MSc (1993) and PhD (2013) here and then serving as a key member of academic staff on both the Music and Sound Recording, and Music Production and Audio Cultures programmes since his appointment as Associate Lecturer in 2017.

Tim was a valued and respected member of the department during his time with us, and was very well liked by colleagues and students alike, who in particular loved his Pop, Rock and Electronic Production Techniques lectures which saw Tim sharing examples of his work from his many years in music. Tim's work ranged from electronic dance music production under a host of different pseudonyms (Germ, Moondog, Tube Jerk, Tim Wright) released through renowned labels including Mute, Tresor and Souljazz; production and remix duties for influential artists; work with contemporary dance ensembles across the globe; and DJing as part of his creative practice. We feel privileged to have counted Tim as part of our team and that our students were lucky enough to benefit from his knowledge and enthusiasm. He will be missed.
