The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Janet Looker, would love you to join her at this celebration of African food and culture, with Africans resident in York sharing with you their national foods and drinks. They are working with the catering staff of the university’s Piazza Restaurant, teaching them how to prepare the food along traditional lines. All ingredients will be displayed accurately, and low spiced dishes will be available for those with this preference. Recipes available! Eat as much as you want!

There will be performances by the Chechelele World Music Choir singing African songs, and by the York based djembe drummers “Voice of the Drum” and the Leeds-based “Knock on Wood. Dancing if you want.

Raffle with prizes from Africa! Dress code totally informal, African if you want!

The Piazza Restaurant is at the University of York’s Campus East, by the Ron Cooke Hub. There is free parking in the university’s car park on Field Lane, and the number 66 and 66a buses from York city centre go to the same point. Just a short walk down to the lake and you’re there.
