Environment and Ethics

Each college has their own Environment and Ethics rep(s), responsible for running creative environmental projects in the college, raising environmental issues with university management and overseeing green initiatives such as recycling. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, get in touch!

If you feel like campaigning, there are also the Environment and Ethics Officers in YUSU, which students can run for each year.

Envirosoc is a collection of like-minded individuals from all departments. Whether you're wanting to learn more about the environment and your connection to it, or share some of your knowledge and passion, Envirosoc caters for all.

Activities range from movie nights in, to nights out, environmental field-trips, speakers and volunteering opportunities.

Get involved by volunteering with Scoop, a student co-operative run by its members, providing organic, exploitation-free and local produce at affordable prices.

Scoop means something different to every member. For some, it's simply a means to cheap food. For others, Scoop is a real social community: providing a supportive group of people committed to ethical living.

University of York Green Party

The University’s Green Party holds speaker events on a range of political topics, socials and debates with other political societies.

They aim to promote the Green Party and its values (sustainability, democracy and social justice) on campus, and hold committee meetings open to all.

Vegetarian & Vegan Society

We like food, philosophy, and the environment. Mainly food.

Are you a fellow food lover?Join the Vegetarian & Vegan Society! Eating less meat is better for the planet, and many studies suggest it’s better for your health too, so do the green (and tasty) thing and stay healthy by joining this food-loving society!

People and Planet

People & Planet is the largest student network in Britain campaigning to end world poverty, defend human rights and protect the environment.

At the start of each academic year, they meet up to brainstorm campaign choices and vote to select the campaigns they want to run. If you have any concerns about an issue affecting us locally, nationally or globally, join People & Planet to suggest it. You never know, it may end up being their most successful campaign!
