Posted on 22 December 2008

The Training Gateway, a pioneering business network initiated and hosted by the University of York, has accepted the 1000th member.

Hertfordshire University became The Training Gateway’s 1000th member less than six months after the network was launched.

Developed by the University of York’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Unit, The Training Gateway hosts an innovative web portal which connects the UK and international business community to every UK university, enabling organisations from across the world to procure high quality corporate and professional training from British universities.

The Training Gateway was the winner of the 2008 Times Higher Education award for Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative.

Amanda Selvaratnam, CEO of The Training Gateway

The network, which won a Strategic Development Fund grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), was launched in July. It has already distributed more than 300 tenders with requests from as far afield as Dubai and Brazil seeking training programmes for a wide variety of staff including air traffic controllers, oil exploration engineers and senior public sector managers.

Lynne Stevens, Business Development Co-ordinator at Hertfordshire University, said: "Being proactive and seeking out opportunities to support and engage with the commercial sector is absolutely key for us, which is why The Training Gateway is such an invaluable resource. For university business development, it provides a central access point to quickly explore, identify and respond to new opportunities. We look forward to many more new and exciting projects through The Training Gateway in 2009."

Amanda Selvaratnam, CEO of The Training Gateway said: "To reach this milestone in such a short time is a fantastic achievement. It demonstrates that The Training Gateway is providing a valuable and much-needed service both to the higher education sector and the business community."
