University of York on the up in research rankings
Posted on Thursday 13 September 2007
The ranking identifies the ‘Big 36’ - Britain’s leading research universities. Now in 4th place, up from 7th in 2005, York demonstrates its credentials as one of the powerhouses of British research.
This ranking reinforces York’s reputation as a major force in British research
Professor Alastair Fitter FRS
Professor Alastair Fitter FRS, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at York said: "This ranking reinforces York’s reputation as a major force in British research. Our strength is across the board, in science, social science and the humanities. Our research makes a great contribution to society - in science and technology, the arts, and public policy influence.
"This is good news for York as one of England’s six Science Cities where international class research lies at the heart of the region’s success.
As well as Research Council grants, University researchers win grants and contracts from other organisations, including industry, UK Government departments, the EU, major charities and international bodies.
