James College celebrates the diversity of its students and offers a wide range of opportunities including a photography programme and award-winning sports teams. Our students enjoy lakeside views, landscaped quads and access to a café, dining hall, cocktail bar and numerous social and study spaces.

Founded in the mid-1990s, James College is named after Lord James of Rusholme, the first Vice Chancellor of the University of York. We pride ourselves in our strong community spirit, where students and staff support each other to get the most out of their time at University.

How does arrivals day work?

You'll be able to collect your keys from 9:30am on Sunday 28th September. Please don't arrive before this.

Once you arrive, you'll be greeted by some of our STYCs (Second and Third Year Contacts), as well as the College Team, in James Hall. As well as collecting your keys, you'll be given a welcome pack full of information. Whilst in the hall, you'll be able to pick up your Freshers' Week wristband and bag (if you've bought a ticket), and collect any merchandise you've pre-ordered, or buy some for cash. If you have any questions or concerns, you'll be able to talk with a member of the college team at this point.

Once you're finished in the hall, your STYCs will give you a hand unloading your belongings and settling into your room. Throughout the day at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm, the College holds a Welcome Talk for parents/carers, so please encourage your family to attend.

At 5pm, there is the full welcome talk for new students, which everyone has to attend. Following that, you get a free welcome meal, and then the JCRC puts on an all-college event on campus.
