Edible Uni is a recently ratified society which aims to encourage students to think about sustainable food production by giving them the opportunity to grow their own fruit and veg on campus in mini-allotments within their colleges. By the end of the day, roughly 20 James college students had turned the soil to make landscaping the slope easier, sawed the wood (delivered locally this morning) to size and hammered it together to form 3 raised beds.
The project was funded by a Vice Chancellor's Fund grant, Edible Uni and the James College JCRC; managed by the James JCRC Eco. Rep. and Edible Uni James Community Coordinator, and overseen by Oliver Bayfield, Chair of Edible Uni. The day was a great success - thanks to the enthusiasm of everyone involved volunteers managed to brave snow, rain and hail to make far more progress than could have been hoped for even with perfect weather!'
