Taught Programmes

The Taught Masters course (MSc) is taken over one year full time, although part time options are sometimes available. The first part of the year provides students with a theoretical knowledge base and practical skills by covering set modules. The second part of the year is spent doing an extended research project in a chosen subject area – it may also be possible to complete the research project in an industrial environment.

Entry requirements

To be accepted to study on one of the postgraduate Taught programmes, the Department would usually require you to have a 2:2 degree or better, or an overseas equivalent, in a chemistry / relevant science related subject. Entry requirements can also take into account relevant prior experience and we would encourage potential candidates to contact the department to discuss suitability if they are interested in pursuing one of our courses.

For students whose first language is not English, the department requires you to have an IELTS score of at least 6.5 or equivalent to pursue post graduate study here. Students will be required to meet the English Language requirements of both the University of York and the UKBA.

If you want to find put more, why not register for our Open Day on Wednesday 7 December.
