Open Days and Visits 2010

Visiting after you get an offer

If you are made an offer during the admissions season or if the department to which you apply wishes to interview you, you will be invited to a departmental visit. These post-application visits are always of great interest to applicants: they offer the opportunity to hear about our programmes in more detail and to talk to present students. Tours of the campus and information about accommodation and other facilities are also provided.

Post-application visits on Wednesday afternoons for 2010 entry

If you are an applicant attending a post-application visit on a Wednesday afternoon between Wednesday 27 January and Wednesday 17 March 2010, when travelling to the university we recommend you try and use public transport if possible as car parking on campus is very limited. If you do come by car, you should arrive well ahead of time as you may not be able to park close to where you are going. Please observe all parking regulations on campus and remember to pay and display where required. There is a charge of £2 for four hours (bring £1 coins).

Information on how to get here can be found on our how to get here page.

Limited Parking at Heslington East

There is some parking on post-application visits on Wednesdays at Heslington East. When leaving the A1079 bear left at the roundabout and left again at the next roundabout with the new buildings on your right-hand side. This will bring you to a staff car park which can be used only on these Wednesday visit days. It is then a 15 minute walk from here to the Heslington campus where your visit will be taking place.

By bus from the Rail Station

From the rail station you can get the First York number 4 bus to the university. The bus leaves from the same side as the station entrance. The journey should take about 15 minutes and will cost £3 return.

Kent Street Car Park

Alternatively, if you wish to park in York and then get a bus or walk to the university the nearest car park is at Kent Street.

To get the bus, on leaving Kent Street car park turn right and at the traffic lights of Barbican Road and Cemetary Road (near the Victoria Hotel) cross on to the road immediately in front of you, known as Heslington Road. The nearest bus stop to the University leaves from the left hand side of Heslington Road and will cost £3 return. You can either catch the First York number 4 or the York Pullman number 44 up to the University. The journey should take about 5/10 minutes.

To walk from Kent Street Car Park you should allow 25/30 minutes for this. Follow directions to the bus stop (as above) and then continue walking along Heslington Road until you come to a crossroads with University Road. Turn right at this junction and follow University Road for 400 metres, you will see the University on your right hand side.

Open Days for 2011 Entry

For 2011 entry the University of York will be holding pre-application Open Days in 2010. Dates and the booking form will be available here in April.
