East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS)
EYMS run the following services to or near the University Campus. These include the 195, X46, X47, 744 and 746. If you would like a timetable for these buses you can get one from the Information Centre, College Reception Desks, or contact the Travel Plan Co-ordinator.
EYMS are now able to offer all University of York staff and students a 20% discount card. These are 'stored value' smartcards which work like a phone top-up card.
How It Works
The cardholder tops up the card by paying the driver. When they get on the bus the cardholder places the card on a machine and the fare is automatically deducted, minus the 20% discount. The remaining amount stored on the card is printed onto the ticket, so it is easy for the cardholder to check their balance.
Benefits of the 20% Discount Cards include:
- Don't need to save up exact change or find money each morning for the fare.
- Save 20% on single and return fares.
- Makes boarding buses easier and quicker.
- Can be used on any East Yorkshire or Scarborough & District bus (excluding contract services).
- The cards are free.
- The cardholder can save money on any bus, not just when travelling to the University.
Features of the 20% Discount Cards
- Cards are personalised to prevent fraudulent use. A digital (.jpg) passport-style photo should be enclosed with all applications.
- Cards are durable plastic which are expected to last for 5 years.
- As the cards are not valid only for a certain fixed period, they can be sold throughout the term, not just at the start of the year.
- Cardholders can top up their card by paying the driver. Minimum top-up £5, maximum top-up £500.
- If the cards are stolen or lost they can easily be 'hot-listed', so they cannot be used.

To apply for a 20% Discount Card
- Fill in EYMS online application form, click here for the link.
- Remember you will need a digital photograph.
- Timetables can be downloaded from www.eyms.co.uk
- EYMS will then process your application form. This will normally take a couple of weeks.
- The Travel Plan Co-ordinator will contact you by e-mail as soon as the card arrives for your collection.
